"The Children are painting the World" album launched in Almaty
The “Children are painting the world” album of 2007 was launched in Almaty late October, at a ceremony organized by the Children’s Art School named after Katseev and the first UNESCO Club of Kazakhstan.
The album is the seventh Kazakhstan edition in the UNESCO World Series that seeks to inspire the creativity among children in an educational spirit.
More than 5,000 children from all over Kazakhstan had submitted their drawings and paintings in this year’s competition, using both traditional and innovative techniques. More of 400 of them are included in the new album, published this year in cooperation with the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan.
The world series of children’s paintings started in Kazakhstan in 1999, with support of UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office. By now, it has generated its own dynamism and a growing interest in children’s art.
“The album reflects the vision of our complicated world by our children, and also illustrates their aspirations, their expectations and, sometimes, their hopes”, Francois Langlois of the Culture Unit of the UNESCO Almaty office says. “It is a positive example of how self-expression can be encouraged and how it can promote pluralism and the diversity of cultures”.
The presentation of the Album took place at the “Dom Priyomov” in the presence of Mr Serik T. Seidomanov, Deputy Mayor of Almaty, Mr Victor Grebnev, General Director of the Republic Fond of the Different Nations of Kazakhstan of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan, many renowned artists and art educators, young performers, as well as a group of children and their parents.
The organizers awarded certificates to more than 20 schools for encouraging artistic talent and self-expression, the press service of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
